Clean, customised corporate stand-up comedy
Parijat Sarkar spent eleven years inside corporate India, at Tata Communications and Tata Motors, before he started selling the jokes instead of living them. He is an MBA from IIT Kharagpur. He describes himself as a Bengali who loves debates and a Gujarati who loves rebates, which tells you most of what you need to know about the act.
He works clean. No blue material, nothing that needs an apology to the HR head afterwards. Every corporate set carries a block written for the client: the org chart, the tooling, the annual offsite in-joke, the thing everyone complains about in the pantry. That block runs to about 15% of the show. The other 85% is material already tested in a thousand rooms, which is what makes the night safe. Buyers keep saying the same thing back in the testimonials, that the customised 15% is the part that landed.
He performs in four languages and hosts as well as he performs, which is rarer than it sounds. Quizzes, award nights, annual parties, product launches, college fests, a fiftieth wedding anniversary. Is the comedy clean and safe for a corporate audience?
