For a year-end or Christmas office party in India, the format that works best for most rooms is one host for the whole evening plus a 30 to 45 minute comedy set written around your company's year. A working corporate comedian costs ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 for that set and a host ₹30,000 to ₹1,00,000, before 18% GST and sound and light. In 2026 Christmas falls on a Friday, so Friday 18 December is the most contested night of the year. Book your acts by mid-November.

Bar chart of weekly Google Trends interest in India from late November 2025 to early January 2026. Christmas party ideas searches start in the last week of November and peak in the week of 21 December. New Year party ideas peak in the week of 28 December.

The short version

  • India searches for Christmas party ideas from the last week of November and peaks in the second half of December. By then the good acts are already booked.
  • Christmas 2026 is a Friday, so Friday 18 December is the night every office wants. A Tuesday to Thursday in the week of 14 December is the easier booking.
  • One host for the evening and one comedy set written about your company's year beats a list of five acts that never connect.
  • A working corporate comedian costs ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 for 30 to 45 minutes. A host runs ₹30,000 to ₹1,00,000. Add 18% GST and sound and light.
  • Put the comedy before dinner and before the bar gets busy. A room that has eaten and had three drinks is a different room.
  • Parijat Sarkar hosts and performs, so one booking covers both. His rates are published on his page.

Every December the same thing happens. Someone in HR or admin gets the year-end party in the first week of the month, searches for ideas, and finds that every comedian, host and band worth having is already booked for the Friday they wanted. The ideas are not the hard part. The calendar is.

This guide starts with the calendar, because that is where most year-end parties are won or lost. Then it covers the formats that work in a room of people who sit next to each other all year, a run-of-show you can copy, and what the whole thing costs once finance has added the tax.

When India plans its office party

Google Trends shows when India searches for party ideas. Searches for Christmas party ideas start in the last week of November and peak in the second half of December: the week of 17 December in 2023, 15 December in 2024 and 21 December in 2025. New Year party ideas peak in the week after Christmas. Searches with "office" in them are rarer, and in 2025 they peaked in the week of 7 December.

Interest is not shrinking. The 2025 season was about half again as busy as 2024, and back in line with 2021 to 2023.

The 2026 dates that matter

DateDayWhat it means for booking
11 DecemberFridayThe first year-end Friday that feels like the season. Busy, and easier than the 18th.
14 to 17 DecemberMonday to ThursdayThe best-value week. Full office, no holiday travel yet, and acts still have midweek evenings free.
18 DecemberFridayThe last Friday before Christmas. Expect every office in the city to want it. Book first or pick another night.
24 and 25 DecemberThursday and FridayChristmas Eve and Christmas Day. Many people are travelling or with family. Avoid for an office party.
31 DecemberThursdayNew Year's Eve. Acts charge their highest fee of the year, and your staff have plans of their own.
4 to 15 January 2027Two weeksEveryone is back and nobody is travelling. A good slot for a new-year party if December is gone.

Five formats that work in an office room

An office party is not a ticketed show. Nobody in the room chose the act, the CEO is sitting next to the newest joiner, and half the room speaks a different first language from the other half. These five formats work in that room.

FormatWhat it doesLengthBest for
A host for the whole eveningRuns the room from welcome to last song. Introduces every segment, fills the gaps, keeps the schedule. The full eveningEvery party over 50 people. Without one, the evening is a set of separate items.
A year-in-review comedy setA clean stand-up set with a block written about your company's year: the launch, the move, the tool everyone hated.30 to 45 minutesThe centrepiece. December is the one month when the whole room shares the same material.
Awards, run by the hostReal awards for real work, plus a few light ones. The host keeps it moving and keeps it kind.20 to 40 minutesTeams that want recognition in the evening without turning it into a review meeting.
A quiz or team gameTables compete. Questions about the company, the city, the year. Good hosts run this without slides.20 to 30 minutesRooms where people do not know each other well.
Music for the end of the nightA DJ or a live band once the formal part is done.As long as the venue allowsAny party that wants dancing. We do not book music. Get two quotes from the venue's list.

The cheapest way to cover the first three is one person who can both host and perform. A comedian who hosts can open the evening, run the awards and the quiz, and do a set in the middle. You brief one person, pay one fee, and the evening has one voice. Not every comedian can host, so ask for a hosting clip as well as a stand-up clip.

A three-hour run-of-show

This is the shape we use for a 100 to 300 person year-end party at a hotel or in a large office. Change the times, keep the order.

Keep it safe for the whole room

A year-end party has interns and directors in the same room, often with alcohol. Comedy that works in a club can go wrong here, and the person who booked it is the one who hears about it on Monday. Three rules cover most of the risk.

  • Book a comedian who works clean by default. Not one who promises to tone it down for you. Ask for a full corporate set on video, not a clip.
  • Write down what is off limits. Layoffs, a named person's appraisal, anyone's appearance, religion, and anything still being decided. The comedy brief template has a section for this.
  • Roast up, never down. Jokes about the CEO's slide decks are fine if the CEO has agreed. Jokes about a junior employee are not, even if their manager suggests it.

There is more on this in clean comedy for corporate events.

How to book it in five weeks

  1. Fix the date and the room

Pick two possible dates, one of them midweek. Confirm the venue, the headcount and the timings before you call any act.

  2. Decide the shape of the evening

Host only, host plus comedian, or one person who does both. Use the run-of-show above as the starting point.

  3. Ask for availability and a quote in one message

Send date, city, headcount, language mix and set length. Ask whether the quote includes GST and travel.

  4. Brief the act

Share the company's year: wins, moves, launches, in-jokes, and the off-limits list. Do it at least two weeks before the party.

  5. Confirm the run-of-show and the sound

Send the final timings and check there is a wireless handheld mic, a spare, and light on the performer's face.

Questions buyers actually ask

What is good entertainment for an office Christmas or year-end party in India?
A host for the whole evening plus a clean 30 to 45 minute comedy set written around your company's year. The host runs awards and a quiz, and a DJ or band takes over after dinner. One person who can both host and perform is the simplest booking.
How much does a comedian cost for an office party in India?
A working corporate comedian costs ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 for a 30 to 45 minute set in 2026, and a touring headliner ₹4,00,000 to ₹10,00,000. Add 18% GST, sound and light, and travel if they are from another city.
How early should we book entertainment for a December office party?
By mid-November for a December Friday. Corporate comedians and hosts fill December diaries in October and November, while most offices only start searching in late November. Midweek dates and January dates are easier to get late.
What is the busiest date for office parties in 2026?
Friday 18 December, the last Friday before Christmas, which falls on a Friday in 2026. Friday 11 December is next. A Tuesday to Thursday in the week of 14 December is easier to book and often cheaper.
When should the comedy happen at an office party?
Before dinner and before the bar gets busy, usually 30 to 60 minutes after the start. A seated, sober room listens. After dinner and a few drinks the same set gets far fewer laughs.
Can a comedian host our year-end party as well?
Some can and some cannot, so ask for a hosting clip. A comedian who hosts can open the evening, run the awards and a quiz, and perform a set, which means one brief and one fee. Parijat Sarkar does both. His hosting runs from ₹30,000 to ₹1,00,000 and his 30-minute corporate set from ₹25,000.

Book the show, not the guesswork
