Open mic in Mumbai: where to perform in 2026

Eight rooms, each checked on 3 November 2026 against its listing or the venue's own page, with the night, the format, how to get a spot, and what your first mic will cost you.

On 3 November 2026 the Mumbai open mics with dates still ahead were Andheri Comedy Nights at Funkaar, Andheri West (Wednesday dates from 4 November, gates 7:50pm, tickets from ₹257), Ghar by Tape A Tale at Jashn Studios (spoken word, Sunday dates from 6 December, 4pm, from ₹300) and Caferati@Prithvi at Prithvi Cafe, Juhu (any art form, fourth Monday, 7pm, free). Expect a two to six minute spot. Some rooms make every performer bring a guest, so ask before you sign up. The Habitat in Khar still lists Monday mics on its site, but it announced it was shutting down in March 2025, and we found no report that it reopened.

Mumbai open mics checked on 3 November 2026, in three groups: listed for November and December (Funkaar Andheri, Tape A Tale Ghar, Caferati at Prithvi Cafe), ran in 2026 so check first (3 Art House, Unmukt at Rasā, Kasa Kai), and do not go without checking (The Habitat, Khar)

The short version

  • Three rooms had dates ahead on 3 November 2026: Funkaar in Andheri West (comedy, Wednesday dates), Tape A Tale's Ghar (spoken word, Sunday dates) and Caferati@Prithvi in Juhu (anything original, fourth Monday).
  • Most of the internet's open mic lists are out of date. Many of the names that still rank were last written up in 2019. Check the date on the listing, not on the article.
  • Spots are short. Two minutes at Prithvi, five at a typical comedy mic, six at Kasa Kai.
  • Some mics cost you money. Producers have charged comics around ₹200 for stage time, or required a paying plus-one. Ask before you sign up.
  • The Habitat is not a safe bet. Its site lists Monday mics, but it announced it was shutting down in March 2025 and we found no reopening.
  • Open mics are unpaid. When you are ready for paid work, register as an artist with C4E Talent.

Search for an open mic in Mumbai and the top results are mostly years old. Venues close, producers move on, and a night that ran every Tuesday in 2019 may not have run since. So we went the other way. We started from the event listings that were live on 3 November 2026, opened each one, and wrote down only what the page said.

The result is a short list, and an honest one. Where a listing gave no start time or fee, the table says so. Message the organiser before you travel, because open mics are cancelled at short notice more than any other kind of show.

Names you will see on older lists

In 2019, Dead Ant named five producers who ran Mumbai's open mics: Grin Revolution (two or three a month, one women-only), Brown Bread Collective (monthly), Chalta Hai Comedy (monthly, at Backspace in Thane), Jeeya Sethi (Integral Space and Yogsagar) and Navin Noronha (Tuesdays at The Habitat). We found no current open mic listing for any of them. Grin Revolution still produces shows, but the 2026 listings we saw were curated lineups, not open mics. Follow these producers if you like, but do not plan a night around a 2019 schedule.

How to find tonight's open mic

  1. Search the listing sites, not the articles

Search "open mic" on District and allevents. Open the listing itself. If it says "Event ended", or only shows a date range that has passed, move on.

  2. Follow the organiser, not the venue

Mics are run by producers who move between rooms. The listing usually names them. Their Instagram is where sign-up forms and line-ups go up, often only a few days before.

  3. Ask three things before you go

How long is the spot? Is there a fee, or do I need to bring someone? Is the list fixed, or drawn on the night? Rooms differ on all three.

  4. Turn up early

Kasa Kai asked performers to arrive 20 minutes before the start, and Prithvi closes its sign-up 30 minutes before. A room with a draw or a walk-in list fills from the front.

What your first open mic will be like

You get a few minutes, not a set

Prithvi Cafe gives each performer two minutes of their own work (Prithvi Theatre). Kasa Kai gave six (District). A Mumbai comedy mic that Dead Ant attended in 2019 ran ten comics at five minutes each (Dead Ant, 27 January 2019). Write for four minutes, so you finish before the light.

Some mics charge you, or make you bring a guest

Dead Ant reported that Mumbai producers often charged comics for stage time, "typically in the region of Rs 200", or required each comic to bring a plus-one who paid entry. The writer paid ₹200 to watch that ten-comic mic (Dead Ant, 2019). The practice is still around: 3 Art House's August 2026 comedy mic listed "Mandatory to bring a +1" (District). A rule like that is not a scam, but you should know it before you sign up.

Spots are often drawn at random

In 2019 Grin Revolution released a form a week ahead and picked six names at random, and Chalta Hai Comedy picked from Facebook comments "at random through an Excel function" (Dead Ant). Today Tape A Tale's Ghar draws chits on the night, and Prithvi takes names at the cafe. If you miss a draw, go back next week. Regulars get known.

Nobody is paid

An open mic is practice in front of strangers. The money starts when a producer or an event books you. Most corporate and private bookings go to performers with clean material, a recorded set, and someone to handle the brief, the contract and the invoice. Our guides on what comedians charge and contracts, GST and TDS show what that side looks like.

Before your first mic

The night before

  • Write four minutes, then cut to three and a half. Laughs take time you did not plan for, and the host will flash the light whether you are done or not.
  • Say it out loud with a timer. A set that reads as four minutes on paper often runs to six on stage.
  • Know your last line. If a bit dies, jump to it. Leaving on a laugh matters more than finishing the list.
  • Message the organiser. Confirm the date, the spot length, any performer fee, and whether you must bring a guest.
  • Carry cash and UPI. Entry, a plus-one ticket or a minimum order at the venue can all land on you.
  • Record your set on your phone. It is how you will find what worked, and in time it is the clip a booker asks for.
  • Stay for the whole mic. The comics after you are the people who will tell you about the next room.

Go back to the same room. A first mic tells you almost nothing. The fifth one in the same room, with the same opener rewritten four times, tells you whether the joke works.

Questions performers ask

Is there an open mic in Mumbai tonight?
Check District and allevents for a listing dated today and open it. On 3 November 2026, Andheri Comedy Nights at Funkaar, Andheri West had Wednesday dates from 4 November, Tape A Tale's Ghar had Sunday dates from 6 December, and Caferati@Prithvi runs on the fourth Monday of every month at 7pm.
How much does it cost to perform at an open mic in Mumbai?
Many are free to perform at. Some charge comics for stage time, reported at around ₹200 in 2019, and some make every performer bring a paying guest. Audience tickets on current listings run from free at Prithvi Cafe to ₹199, ₹257 and ₹300. Ask the organiser before you sign up.
How long is an open mic spot?
Usually two to six minutes. Prithvi Cafe gives two minutes, a typical comedy mic gives about five, and Kasa Kai gave six.
What is a bringer mic?
An open mic where each performer must bring at least one paying audience member in exchange for a spot. 3 Art House's August 2026 comedy mic in Mumbai listed a +1 as mandatory.
Is The Habitat in Khar still running open mics?
We could not confirm it. Its website lists Monday comedy mics at 7pm and 9pm for ₹300, but it carries no dates. The Habitat announced it was shutting down temporarily in March 2025, and we found no report that it reopened. Call the venue before you go.
Are there poetry and music open mics in Mumbai?
Yes. Caferati@Prithvi at Prithvi Cafe, Juhu takes any original work, including poetry, song and dance, in two-minute slots. Tape A Tale's Ghar at Jashn Studios is a spoken-word mic in English and Hindi. Unmukt at Rasā The Stage in Goregaon took poetry, storytelling, comedy and music through October 2026.
How do I get paid gigs after open mics?
Build a clean five to ten minute set, record it, and get in front of people who book events. A page on C4E Talent is free. On gigs we bring, our fee is 15% of yours, and you are paid within 7 days of the client paying us. Gigs you find yourself stay yours.

Book the show, not the guesswork

C4E Talent represents Parijat Sarkar, a Mumbai stand-up comedian and host who spent eleven years inside corporate India before he started selling the jokes instead of living them. Clean by default, up to 15% of every set written for the client, rates published on the page.
