Confidentiality letter for a customised corporate set

A customised set lands because the act knows the CFO's catchphrase and the product that slipped a quarter. Companies share that more freely once the act has put a promise in writing. This is the promise.

The short answer

A confidentiality letter for a customised set is a one-page promise from a comedian or host to the company that briefed them: the briefing, the names and the internal jokes are used only to write the set, cleared before the show, kept private afterwards, and the notes destroyed. It is shorter than an NDA because the artist is the only one receiving secrets.

The letter

Each clause reads as it does in the download. Fill the [BLANKS], and where a line starts with ☐, keep the option you want and strike the rest.

To: [CLIENT NAME], [ADDRESS]

Date: [DATE]

I am writing a customised set for your event, [EVENT NAME] on [DATE]. To do that, your team will brief me about your business, your people and your internal culture (the "Briefing").

I will use the Briefing only to write and perform this set. I will not share it with anyone except [MY WRITER OR AGENCY, NAMED HERE: NAME], who is bound by this letter too.

I will send you, by [DATE], every line in the set that uses a name, a number or anything from the Briefing, and I will drop any line you ask me to.

I will not use material from the Briefing in any other show, recording or post, now or later.

Within [14] days after the event, I will delete or destroy my notes and recordings of the Briefing, and confirm this to you by email.

This promise does not cover anything that is public, or anything the law requires me to disclose, and it continues after the event with no end date.

Signed, [ARTIST NAME], [STAGE NAME]

Why a letter and not an NDA

Only one side is sharing secrets, so a one-way promise from the artist is enough, and a client's legal team can approve it in a day. If the client insists on its own NDA, read it for a clause that claims ownership of the set: the client is buying a performance, not the act's material.

Questions people ask

Do comedians sign NDAs for corporate shows?

Often, when the set is customised from a briefing. A one-page confidentiality letter from the artist is usually enough and is quicker to approve than a full NDA.

Does the company own the customised set?

Not unless the contract says so. The company pays for the performance. The jokes stay the artist's, except the lines built on the company's own information, which this letter keeps out of any other show.
